Whole-Body PB for Absolute Beginners
Haven’t Tried Pickleball Yet? This is for you...
If you take up the game of pickleball before you've learned how to hit the ball properly, you are likely to start forming bad habits from the get-go. Each time you strike the ball, your body is building muscle memory, by forging connections between neurons in the brain. If you do this for weeks or months, you will almost certainly have developed dysfunctional movement and stroke patterns that can be difficult to unlearn. The road much less traveled is to get it right from the start. Before you ever step on the court, learn the proper athletic stance (shown in the photo), footwork and simple and effective ways of hitting all the basic shots in the game, including the serve, forehand, backhands, dinks and volleys. This way, when you do start playing the game, you'll be building on the good habits you've worked to establish. This insures much faster progress, and a strong foundation for advancing in the game, if you decide to take that work on later. This training takes place in my small yoga studio, and includes some paddle work and ball striking, so please bring your paddle (or borrow one from me). If you have a suitable space in the greater Burlington, Vermont area, I could also come to you.
